The Echo Presents
Chicagoan turned Bay Area brainiac Kristine Flaherty (K. Flay) is no stranger to the hip-hop game – she’s now a fourth (or fifth year) veteran with verbal training from Stanford to compliment her already vicious flow and production skills. While she has evolved considerably since her 2009 release Mashed Potatoes – with at least five mixtape releases – her songs never cease to be laced with vivid references and rich experience. Maybe the tracks are informed by her dual psychology and sociology degrees – or maybe they’re just flush with that Chicago swag– either way, they’re dope.
K. Flay is a conscious light in the field of emerging white female artists – with vernacular and stage presence far superior to Kreayshawn’s and hip-hop swagger that’s a distinctively different flavor than Iggy Azalea’s – she owns the mic and crowd in her own special way. On a dimly lit stage, with her sneakerhead steeze and unflashy dress – you might even forget that the verbal venom you’ll hear is coming from a white suburban Midwest bred female Stanford graduate.
K. Flay, who recently signed with RCA, continues to shine on her latest release Eyes Shut Ep – which you can download for free at www.kflay.com . The Los Angeles performance happens to be her last road stop before returning back to the Bay Area – so don’t miss the chance to catch her as she closes out her tour.
