Mosaic Saturdays Details
Well for starters I’m from Chicago, born and spun out of the house era from the early 80’s house, hip hop, acid jazz, Detroit techno, electronic music producing, to a software-hardware demonstration technologist that’s just getting a chance to say and show, what wHo knows.
I’m a pioneering dj in the field of spinning in different mediums. I can spin turntables, dual cd players and computers together or separately spin them with the same feel and sound of a turntable. My motto is ” if it is a disk I can spin it from hard disk to vinyl .”
I started spinning with two non pitchable turntables, eventually playing technics 1200’s. From there I started producing hip hop utilizing the sampler inside my mixer.
One day I walked into Imports etc., on the south side of Chicago, their beginning as one of the first dj only record stores started out of an indoor parking lot. Most of the djs spinning house music at the time were buying their music from Imports. Ten years later they reduced their wax to more then half and started selling cd’s. Even though I was comfortable spinning turntables that’s when I knew if I wanted to keep spinning a variety of music, I was going to have to start buying and playing cd’s.
My style of spinning is unorthodox to many. I’m no longer dependent solely on vinyl records, but my love for good music has increased.
I spin from the heart and not from the charts, what I can’t find I create. I love technology that’s why I became a dj or I would have played the piano seeing as though there was a grand piano and an organ in my living room growing up. There was also a drum set that was mine, bongos, congas, electric guitar, flutes, and a studio sound system in the living room that was my dad’s hobby. I come from a history of blues, jazz, gospel and opera singers, so as it appears I grew up on stage with a band.
Most people that have met me, have seen me open up for George Clinton playing the computer in LA or instore demonstration at Virgin Mega Stores all over the USA. I have played in computer stores from Comp USA to Best Buy in California and also in concert tours from Moby Area One tour 2001 to the Revolution Tour 2000 with Juan Adkins etc.
Some of you might have seen me open the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000, or seen me playing in the middle of time square in New York in october 2001 for Intel and Microsoft, an open for Bill Gates in New York for the Launch of XP in front of The World Press. I have played clubs in west LA to San
