Piranha Piranha is the production project shared by djs/artists Dan Solo & Mr. Geography. Upon meeting one afternoon in the amazon river basin, the two have grown very close and under the guise of Piranha Piranha they have crafted a unique brand of production that leaves no influences out. Piranha Piranha are pushing the boundaries in the local music scene (Calgary) with their massive dj/live sets, and original productions. The killer fishies sound is a mix of dubstep, breaks, ghetto bass, techno and house that has captivated a following that continues to grow both local and globally. Their music has received dj support by artists including RSD, Sub Swara, BunZer0, Starkey, Drop the Lime, Kush Arora, Daega Soundsytem, & DFRNT amongst others. With a handful of licensed original tracks and remixes prepped for release in 2010, several festival and headlining shows booked, Piranha Piranha are set to land on the radar of music heads even more so…along with the dj support they have earned, their music has been shared on music sites allover the world including reputable blogs from the UK, France, Switzerland, Poland, USA, Australia, and of course Canada. Found every Friday at their legendary club night, “Modern Math”, in Calgary, a night which in a short period has become a staple for any music head in town. The night is a melange of art, music, love, and griminess. Modern Math has won the hearts of all who have experienced it, and become a favorite amongst local bass nerds, party kids, rude boys/gyals, and underground music fans alike…. Watch for the launch of a Modern Math digi-label in summer 2010.
Slimpickins is a boisterous 4 piece band that transports you back a 150 years. The band is a variety music show, with styles including New Orleans influenced tunes, klezmer, Cajun, ragtime, country blues, appalachian, sprinkled with some jazz and swing. Annie Ford from Virginia plays a smoking fiddle and sings like a voice from a 20’s record. Jake Landry fingerpicks the guitar and has a low southern voice to be reckoned with. Slim Nelson of New Orleans is the one of the only bass players to be playing a rack harmonica at the same time. The aluminum bass ain’t bad looking either. Eddy Tenderloin from McAllen, Texas first started eating with chopsticks then became a virtuoso using them on the washboard. He also doubles on guitar and vocals. Inspired by the The Great Depression and the current one, they seek to breath new life to these tunes and artists.
