Sunrise Afterhours Details

Sunrise Afterhours is back December 2009 at the LOTUS LOUNGE (222 Slater Street @ Bank)!

This venue has taken steps to brand itself as a premiere source for quality electronic dance music in Ottawa with weekly and monthly events like Funktion, Exposure, Koncrete Jungle and Recess!, all catering to a variety of underground sounds. Now with Sunrise Afterhours in the event calendar’s Saturday night slot, it has firmly cemented Lotus Lounge as a reliable destination in our fair city for quality beats from the best in local, national and international DJ talent.

With an intimate 100 person capacity located in the business district at Bank and Slater Streets (no residential area for blocks!), we know that the vibes created will be nothing short of magic. There’s something about the DJ being only a foot or two away from the dancefloor that helps create that wonderful shared experience between DJ and dancers.

Being only a few blocks from the Byward Market, Lotus Lounge is a small hop, skip and a jump away from Ottawa’s entertainment district, and serves as a great place to begin, continue, or even end your night on a high note. Lotus Lounge brought in a new management team who and have recently completed some great renovations, including fresh decor, redone bathrooms, new dancefloor and bar, plenty of comfortable booth and bench seating and a tidy sound system – the same sound kit that Sunrise rocked in the early years at Mavericks (remember shaking the front windows on Rideau street?). Then we add the fact that Lotus is right on the transitway beside the Bank Street stop, the 95 bus now runs 24 hours, and the Starbucks upstairs from Lotus opens up at 7am every day just as we close. Mmmm… post-dancefloor cappuccinos…

Every Saturday night following NYE, we’ll be going full afterhours, our hours of operation will be from 10pm to 7am as we keep the party rocking at Lotus Lounge into Sunday morning.

Our aim is to bring the dark and dirty underground back to the National Capital Region. No filler, no cheese, no fluff. Only forward-thinking and cutting edge electronic music. We’re looking to revisit the days when a group of open and like-minded party people could gather to cut loose on the dancefloor, leaving the pretension and posturing of the normal bar scene behind to focus on THE MUSIC. And we hope you’ll join us and be a part in this fantastic new era of Ottawa clubbing!
