The Neil Younguns Details
The Neil YoungunsUpon hearing Larry “I’ve Long Since Retired From Playing Music” Cariou pick up a guitar and bang out a couple of Neil Young tunes at a party, local Toronto artist Sticky Red exclaimed, “You should start a band! Call it. I don’t know. The Neil Young’uns!” About 5 years later, armed with the cool band name, Larry got together with Steve, Denis, Trudy, and original drummer John Van Bruggen in Denis’ basement, and The Neil Young’uns were born.In the summer of ’08, with a few months of practice under their belts, the band got a bit too big for the aforementioned basement. They started playing the Toronto club scene, with their first gig coming on a cold night in February, at The Historic Cameron House. Sadly, due to a chronic arm injury, J.V.B. was forced to leave the band, and was replaced by former Blue Rodeo drummer Mark French, in April of ’09.
