Baldwin Barmacie is a converted pharmacy turned bar and lounge on posh Laurier West.
Is Baldwin a hybrid between a bar and a drugstore? Thats probably pushing it too far. The only link between both concepts is that youll find good medicine at both. But the name of the place comes actually from Mrs. Baldwin herself, the owners grand-mother who once ran a drugstore located in the same space at the corner of St-Viateur and St-Laurent Streets.
Like at the Apothecary
Hit the Barmacie for the multitude of martinis and the creative cocktails, especially those made with Spanish wines. Now thats the type of soft medicine we like! You can even concoct your own elixirs by asking for a glass each of juice and alcohol and creating a mix to suit your tastes. Its served in an old canister: you know the one your grandma used to conserve her homemade ketchup? If it aint broke, dont fix it!
Dont be fooled: the ambience has nothing of a drugstore. Small lamps in the shape of flowers add style to this lounge-style spot. The music is eclectic: funk, lounge, Brit pop, electro and retro. The Baldwin is popular amongst the late-twenties, early-thirties crowd that comes for the 5 7 after work and on Friday and Saturday nights when there is standing room only.
