In 1983, with the purchase of a small pizzeria in Tenafly, New Jersey, John Osso and Mario Bernardo learned first hand that delicious, made fresh to order dishes, using only the best ingredients appeals as much to the local families in New Jersey as it did to the families they grew up with in Calabria, a region on the coast of Southern Italy.
Tenafly Pizzeria Restaurant has grown into one of the community’s finest and busiest Italian restaurants and is “The Original Bensi.”
In 1998, John and Mario decided to take their “Always Fresh, All Ways Italian” cooking to other areas of New Jersey, and three restaurants soon followed, Centanni in North Arlington, Romanza in River Vale and Domani in Hillsdale. These three restaurants, together with Tenafly Pizzeria Restaurant, served to launch the Bensi brand that is rapidly growing today.
Bensi now operates sixteen restaurants in New Jersey and Pennsylvania with eight more under development. Bensi of English Village, located in North Wales, was the first in the Pennsylvania market with Bensi of Wyomissing soon to follow. Further expansion is planned for both states in the upcoming years.
“Made fresh to order” is a demanding process, requiring commitment and dedication. To best deal with this, Bensi remains owner managed at every level. Each Bensi Restaurant has a management team comprised of a Head Chef and General Manager, both co-owners. They have a vested interest in the success of their respective restaurant and have made a long-term commitment to the “Bensi Way,” serving fresh and tasty Italian dishes set in a casual dining environment. And while each Bensi uses similar ingredients and preparation procedures, you can expect a unique touch at each location.
Bensi’s friendly and attentive staff is dedicated to making your dining experience most pleasurable, and most importantly, to serving food that is Always Fresh, All Ways Italian!
