Byron Carlyle Theater The Byron Carlyle Theater, located at 500 71st Street, originally opened in December1968 as twin cinemas hosting first run movies in the heart of north Miami Beach. In the mid-1970’s, the theater was re-developed into a multiplex cinema and continued to operate until it was sold by its owner, Wometco Enterprises, when the City of Miami Beach purchased it for refurbishment as a performing arts venue in 2002. This project was completed during approximately 10 months in design and construction. This exquisite performing arts jewel, located in the heart of north Miami Beach, serves as a cultural centerpiece for this area. The intimate and cozy venue is now the perfect location to host dance, theater, music, film lectures and meetings and is already boasting a full calendar of programs scheduled to take place in its first year of operation. The Byron Carlyle Theater was purchased by the City of Miami Beach in 2002 for a price of 1.7 million dollars and was been refurbished at a cost of 1.7 million dollars. The total seating capacity for the Theater is 304 with 152 seats in the orchestra level and 138 seats in the mezzanine level in addition to seating that is ADA accessible.
