Café Mawonaj is a culinary and cultural oasis
located in Washington, D.C.’s famed Shaw
neighborhood. Specializing in Pan-African,
Caribbean, and Soul Food delights, Café
Mawonaj offers a menu that will make your
mouth water. In keeping with the definition
of Mawonaj- “resisting oppression”, dishes

Lumumba, and Nelson Mandela. There is
something to satisfy every palate, including a
variety of vegetarian and vegan specialities.

Just as flavorful as the food is the ambiance

will delight in the exquisite paintings and
carvings, while your ears are tantalized by
lively music.

In addition to the great food and atmosphere,
Café Mawonaj patrons enjoy a variety of
