Exceptional cuisine, in an energetic yet intimate dining experience at palatable prices — this is the vision of managing partner Jeffrey Lefcourt and chef/partner Glenn Harris. In the spring of 2001, this seasoned duo opened their doors, and Jane became the much-needed addition to the downtown culinary map, delivering a tantalizing mix of intriguing food, gracious service and sexy scenery.
Chef/partner Glenn Harris, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and protégé of Chef Marc Meyer (Five Points) and Chef Jonathan Waxman, has created a menu emphasizing fresh local ingredients with a warm neighborhood sensibility. Chef Harris’s lasting relationships with area farmers, growers and fishermen are the foundation for his cuisine. He is committed to serving ambitious everyday fare; this sentiment is reflected in his cuisine at Jane, striking an appealing balance of creativity and familiarity.
Jeffrey Lefcourt, a veteran operations manager who previously worked with Stephen Hanson’s B.R. Guest restaurant group, serves as managing partner, overseeing the dining room and daily operations. Lefcourt emphasizes his restaurant’s focus on hospitality, “New Yorkers dine out so often that they need more value-oriented restaurants that successfully create a truly comforting environment with great food. This is what Jane is all about.”
Complementing Jane’s approachable and inspired menu is an eclectic 75-bottle wine list, selected by Lefcourt, and categorized by flavor rather than region or varietal. Cocktails are also favorites at Jane, especially their seasonal fruit martinis such as the Bartlett Pear Martini with fresh pear purée and the Blood Orange Cosmopolitan.
Jane is an un-intimidating American Bistro that beckons to neighborhood regulars and destination diners alike.
