This prime waterfront location in Delray Beach was four years in the making due to its location on the Intracoastal Waterway next to the Atlantic Avenue Bridge. The property on the west side overlooking the water had 35 foot high mangroves (an endangered species) that blocked the view. These plants had to be safely relocated so as not impact the environment. After getting approval from a large number of government agencies and the shopping center neighbors, the project was approved for development in early 1997.
The design and building of the restaurant was next, and the opening happened in October of 1998. The location of the restaurant made it an easy choice to feature seafood as the foundation of the menu. Chefs from the Bahamas and New Orleans were hired to oversee the kitchen, and the fresh seafood theme is still the mainstay of the food today.
