Inspired by iconic Angeleno beauty, sbe’s Doheny Room is a stylish neighborhood bar / lounge; with an eclectic menu of multicultural shared plates, decadent desserts and classic craft cocktails. It is the sort of place where the ideal dinner reservations are later than 8pm to kick off a long night of revelry. Your meal will probably consist of dishes like lobster poutine and Doheny Room party trick of a dessert before moving to the bar for after dinner drinks. But the party really starts at the clubby upstairs lounge; where pretty people and vodka sodas abound.
The front entrance is open and airy – almost in the style of a Moroccan riad – and a U-shaped interior balcony overlooks the lower level of the two-story restaurant; where upside down palm tree decorations with twisted rope as tree trunks hang from the ceiling like chandeliers.
The exterior feels very art deco; with its bold blue-green, geometric front. But the interior, also rich in colors, features floor-to-ceiling windows and oversized, light wood shutter treatments. By 11:00 pm, the downstairs becomes packed. Guests with reservations carry on their late-night dinners; while others mingle around the central, open-air bar (a commanding, pièce de résistance of sorts). But the main action is upstairs, where a DJ spins and bottle service begins to flow; though access is not guaranteed.
